Depending On When You Met Me: Joining the Party - SOLSC 2021

I decided to accept Leigh Anne Eck's invitation to her slicer party.  She posted a mentor text and invited others to join her. You can read Leigh Anne's Slice for the details.

The mentor text that she shared was "Depending On When You Met Me" by Devon Gundry, Soul Pancake

"Depending on when you met me, I might have been: a checker’s champion, the kid who squirted Super Glue in his eye, a competitive Ping-Pong player, Tweedle Dum, a high school valedictorian, a fake blond, 1/12 of an all-male a capella group, a graduate of the Vanderbilt School of Engineering, a nomad, a street musician, or a pigeon assassin."

Depending On When You Met Me by Donnetta Norris

Depending on when you met me, I might have been wearing braces on my shoes to correct bowleggedness, cared for by my grandparents while my mother finished high school, joined the middle school choir because my best friend joined, a track runner (the mile) for 1 year, an administrative assistant in a co-op job during junior and senior year of high school, a Bowling Green State University graduate, assisting the management of a burger joint, selling athletic shoes and apparel, a marathon finisher, a temporary resident of  Honolulu, HI, a teacher, a reader, a writer.

  1. I did this too, a couple of days ago. I thought was fun to try to figure out which chunks of my life I wanted to include. It also gave me several other ideas for slices. I read yours and want to know more about Hawaii and marathon running and the braces!

  3. Thanks for joining! I admire anyone who finishes a marathon. My daughter did a half, and I saw first hand the amount of work it takes. I bet stories exist about caring for your grandparents. That is what I love about the prompt - so many stories!!

  4. What a great inspiration! I love how I learned so much about you, and yet have so many more questions as a result of reading this. It’s like a trailer for so many other slices that you could write. Thanks for introducing me to Leigh Ann’s “slicer party.”

  5. I love getting to know people through this prompt. My son is starting track next week. I've thought about taking up running with him but I don't think I'll ever make it to a marathon. I'm super impressed with anyone that can do that!!

  6. How good you were able to join. I always wait for Leigh Anne's party and for what people will bring. A marathon finisher - hat off for that.
